The company Thecorpora S.L. signed an acceleration contract with Growing Startups to promote Q.bo One, the first patented Social Robot that enables empathic interaction
Thecorpora’s objective is to provide an empathetic interaction between humans and robots, in two very specific areas: education for children and elder assistance.
Q.bo ONE is the first robot in history that recognizes itself in a mirror. It has proven to be able to interact with autistic children and victims of bullying. The robot can also remind seniors of their medication plan and interact with them to combat cognitive decline.
Barcelona, November 12th, 2021 – Founded in 2008 by Javier Paz and his brother Carlos Paz, Thecorpora is a Spanish robotics company with the objective to provide empathic interaction between humans and robots. In 2011, it launched its first robot called Q.bo with Intel recognizing the company as one that would be important to the field of robotics in 10 years. Developed via Open Source with the collaboration of internal and external developers, Q.bo was the first robot in the world to recognize itself in a mirror, as well as to share information with another robot located in a different city through the Cloud.
Worldwide Recognition. The Q-bo robot is launched to validate the social robot concept. Till date, TheCorpora has commercialized more than 1000 robots to partners and customers in over 49 countries on 6 continents. In addition, they have worked together with important technology partners such as IBM, INTEL, Luca Robotics and Watsomapp in promoting this product concept. After five years of research with different universities around the world, Thecorpora launched Q.bo One in 2017 through a successful Crowdfunding campaign. Q.bo One is an evolved version that is used by companies, universities and schools around the world as an educational tool. In addition, it incorporates applications that allow the robot to work with autistic children, as well as interacting with children who have been victims of bullying. In 2022, the company will introduce the new version of Q.bo One that will allow a more empathic interaction between the robot and the human such as simple medical consultations and check-ups for the elderly and cognitive work applications to slow the deterioration caused by diseases like Alzheimer’s. All these are made possible with the inclusion of a 7 ”touch screen.
Growing Start-ups Entry. This November, Thecorpora has signed an acceleration contract with Growing Start-ups, an accelerator focused on applying innovation to digital industrialization. Founded in Barcelona, its objective is to catalyse and promote technology-based projects in viable and investable companies. Through the agreement reached with Thecorpora, Growing Start-ups will work with the management team to define the 3-year strategic plan and implement the roadmap that allows it to scale the project and consolidate leadership in the two identified market segments.
For Javier Paz, president and co-founder of TheCorpora, “The participation of Growing Startups will help us to form concrete relationships with great investors that will help us make the definitive leap to the global market, allowing Q.bo and its technology to help care for people of the third age from all over the world as well as accelerate the development of new applications in the field of education and new technologies applied to STEM teaching of children between 3 and 14 years old. Thanks to its Open Source architecture, it is easy for users and developers in Colleges and Universities or Research Centers develop applications that works with the robot”.
On the other hand, Joan Matutano, Partner of Growing Start-ups, stated: “Our objective is to accelerate the process of arrival to the market of technologies so that they can be competitive, have products that are international references and create fabric and industrial wealth for our region.”
